After Surgery

After your procedure, you will be instructed as to how to operate your new AMS 800 Urinary Control System. The doctor will show you how to activate and deactivate the device before you leave the hospital. You will return for routine checkups following your procedure, and your patient coordinator will be in contact for any follow-up appointments should you need any further instructions on how to use the device.

Q) Will anybody be able to see the implant?

A) No. The implant is concealed within your body and is very discreet. Nobody needs to know that you have had the surgery unless you tell them

Q) Are there any risks with the surgery?

A) All surgery carries risks. Your surgeon will take a detailed medical history as part of your consultation, and you will be required to take a series of blood and urine investigations before the surgery. Although the risks are small, you should discuss them with your Surgeon. At the consultation, your Surgeon will outline the potential risks and complications with you as well as the benefits of the procedure.

Q) Will I need to take time off work?

A) As you will be undergoing a surgical procedure, you should plan to take around one to two weeks off work. Depending on your job and recovery you may need slightly less or more than this. Generally, the recovery from the procedure takes between four to six weeks. Your surgeon will discuss with you your overall lifestyle and how this will be affected during the process.
